Literally, democracy means "power of the people". Democracy, in terms of practical considerations, is a principle of legitimacy. The political system based on parliamentary democracy guarantees both the human and fundamental rights of the citizen of Nepal. Though, Nepal is one of the countries in South Asian region facing a number of problems, particularly in the area of poor governance. And other problems are directly interlinked with the problem of good governance. It is clear that developing countries like Nepal need to address these problems with full humane understanding and greater community participation programs. The main thrust of such program activities will be to raise awareness in local community and develop program from direct interaction with local peoples because they are not only the best informed to tell outsiders what their needs and priorities are but also the best judges to decide what development course they want to pursue. This could be attained only through informed citizenry. |
